Angélica Medina co-founded In Lak'ech Dance Academy in Oakland in 2017 with her wife, Jahaira Fajardo. The academy is described as the first queer and trans salsa and bachata dance school in the United States, and it centers queer and trans dancers through Afro-Latin dance as a practice of healing. Medina and Fajardo are the first queer couple with a female lead to win the World Latin Dance Cup, and they have won it twice.
