Sister Ida
Greetings from Sister Ida, the 20th fully professed Sister of the San Diego house of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
Tiger's Pictionary became an important part of my ministry when it was celebrating its 6th month of giving space for people to have fun on a quiet Wednesday night, while also giving space for a small event to help raise money for several of the community support organizations in the San Diego County. Tiger or Saint Tiger and I like to call this San Diego's longest running, weekly (at the time) FunDraiser. In the 10/11th year of the event, Tiger's Pictionary has raised over $100,000 for those various organizations, and for me, gives me a needed outlet to connect with people in a fun way. Sisters in many other cities have their own game nights for this type of ministry. It has been a valuable way to both be out with our community and to serve in helping others. Personally, it has helped me feel my own relevance.
When Covid-19 hit the world stage and forced its way across the land, people found it necessary to take much needed precautions to stem the tide and influence, as it was not easily treatable in those early days of 2020. For that reason, Tiger's Pictionary went on hiatus and was mostly live casted from Tiger's home, with a few friends in attendance.
It seems many of us had our partners or close family ties to have as quarantine buddies.
As vaccinations became available, and the numbers seemed to be evening off, with more people getting access to the vaccine, life started to feel as the corner was now turning. It was in May 2021, when talks to bring back this live event, if even in some limited fashion, back to #1, Fifth Ave. Though a change was in store. Paul Moo of the local leather community, had attended and had hosted on a few occasions, and was motivated to see the return to the back patio. As the 'side-kick' on the other side of the white board, I was asked if I had interest in continuing my involvement. We all know I had to jump back into it.
There are a few differences this time around. We sadly lost our Wednesday time slot, as it had another event in its place. Tuesday's being open for us, we tried a few ways to make a start on this new date. Tiger opening the first few events, then to hand it over to Paul. It has eased into a 1st and 3rd Tuesday's of the month, with attendance slowly returning. Having enjoyed 10 successful game nights to the end of 2021, Tiger's Pictionary raised $2,349 for 8 organizations who we are proud to serve.
To restate: Tiger's Pictionary happens the 1st and 3rd Tuesday's of each month. As before, starting promptly at 7:30 (ish) sharp. :) and running until 10:00pm. on the back patio at Number 1, Fifth Ave.
My own hosting of Tiger's Pictionary is always a fun time. I had worked the 'Right side of the board' for most of the time, and asked on the occasions when I was needed. It is my own wish, that happens, where the event can be used as a tool to teach our 'Nunlings / Acolytes' the confidence to be with a crowd and actually do the work. Events don't run themselves, so having both an exciting hosting team, is as important as the people who attend and enjoy playing.
Early on, Tiger handed over the fund raising and gift acquisition to the Sisters. Most of the fund raising or (FUNdraising) is at the event. The Sisters, however, have the ability for people to make donations on our website. https://www.SDSisters.org
In fact, the site is a great place to learn more of what the San Diego Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are up to and how to get involved.
