Historian and storyteller Russ Lopez joins Stonewall for an engaging conversation about his book Provincetown Stories, a vivid exploration of the people, places, and queer histories that shaped one of America’s most beloved LGBTQ+ communities. Blending archival insight with intimate personal narratives, Lopez traces the artists, activists, eccentrics, and everyday residents who transformed Provincetown into a haven of creativity, resistance, and chosen family. His work captures the spirit of a town where queer life has long flourished—messy, joyful, political, and profoundly human.
This program offers a chance to hear directly from a writer whose deep affection for Provincetown is matched by his commitment to preserving its stories. Lopez will discuss the histories that inspired Provincetown Stories, the characters who animate its pages, and why this small coastal town continues to hold an outsized place in LGBTQ+ culture. Join us for an evening that celebrates queer community, honors the storytellers who keep our histories alive, and affirms Stonewall’s mission to preserve and share the narratives that shape our collective past and future.
