QueerCalendarSan Diego Bootblack and Leather (SDBBL) hosts monthly gatherings called "Leather Weather" on the 4th Friday of each month from 7pm-9pm(ish) at AWOL (1475 University Ave) where we welcome anyone in the greater kink, fetish, drag, and bdsm communities, offering an easy place to be a newcomer for those curious about it all.
SDBBL is a volunteer-run, community organization focused on welcoming adult folks who share a healthy interest in the Leather, kink, and BDSM lifestyles for social, educational, and community building events. Even though it's called "Leather Weather," people that attend come as they are. Some folks come right after work, some dress in "high cow," (head to toe leather), but many folks from adjacent communities come in latex, puppy gear, pony gear, littles, bear-wear or whatever makes you feel foxy (or just comfortable). Sometimes we have theme parties so for those, go wild if you like! Showing up and enjoying the scene is all we hope for.
We almost always have a bootblack (a person who is skilled in leather care). The bootblacks work as a service to community but there is a tipping culture to express your gratitude for having that time and skill places on your garments, boots, or body :) If you want to enjoy that experience, bring cash or be prepared for venmo/zelle/paypal gratuity.
Sometimes we use the time to help raise funds for local organizations in need. There may be themes to dress up, drag performances, auction items, 50/50 raffles, or drink specials. Keep an eye out each month for details. Do you have an organization in need? Let us know and we'll look at including it as a benefactor.
